For admission to the Postgraduate Program “Advanced Methods of Design, Technology & Management of Wood Products”.

The Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences & Design of the School of Technology of the University of Thessaly announces the beginning of the application process for the admission of postgraduate students, for the academic year 2022-2023 in the Postgraduate Studies Program (MSc) with the title “Advanced Methods of Design, Technology & Management of Wood Products” with three (3) specializations: a) Product Design, b) Technology & Construction and c) Management & Marketing.

The program is addressed to graduates: of the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design, of the Departments of Design and Technology of Wood and Furniture, Forestry and Management of Natural Environment, Forestry and Natural Environment, Forestry and Management of Landscaping, Natural Resources, Forestry and Environmental and Natural Resources Management, to graduates of Polytechnics, graduates of Sciences, Economics, Administration, Marketing, graduates of other Departments of Universities (Universities or TEI), whose relevance to the subject of this program is judged on a case by case basis by a competent selection committee for the Selection of Postgraduate students, as well as to graduates of foreign universities of related specialty, after submitting equivalence of their title by the competent body.

The registrations in the MSc are held during the second fortnight of September 2022, while the courses will begin in early October 2022 and will be held at the premises of the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences & Design in Karditsa, in Greek. The teaching of the courses is implemented every 15 days, Friday (afternoon), Saturday and Sunday, and is supported with modern means of distance learning, according to the current legislation, in order to facilitate working students who are far from Karditsa. In addition, the possibility of additional remedial teaching in some courses is provided, if this is necessary.

The duration of studies is three (3) academic semesters. In the 1st and 2nd semester, the taught courses are monitored, while in the 3rd semester, a postgraduate thesis is prepared. Obtaining the postgraduate diploma requires attendance and successful examination in ten (elective and compulsory) courses, as well as submission and successful examination of a postgraduate diploma thesis.

The maximum number of students that will be admitted for the academic year 2022-23 is thirty (30).

Interested are invited to send from the publication of this until 31 August 2022 fully completed in Google Forms the Expression of Interest Application by electronically attaching the following supporting documents:

  1. Photocopy of police ID.
  2. Complete and updated CV, which will include information on the studies, scientific and professional activity of the candidates.
  3. Copies of diplomas and certificates of analytical grade (or Diploma Supplements) or a responsible statement that their graduation is expected to be completed 10 days before the start of the courses.
  4. Certificate of recognition and equivalence from DOATAP (for those who come from foreign universities).
  5. Copies of foreign language certificates.
  6. Evidence of professional, educational experience and generally scientific activity (if any).
  7. Letters of recommendation (if any).
  8. Four (4) ID photos

The evaluation of the candidates will be based on the overall score (on a scale of 1 – 100) with the following criteria (in parentheses is the weighting of each criterion): a) the general degree / diploma with a minimum grade of “Very Good” (30%), b) the level of knowledge of the foreign language (10%), c) publications in scientific journals, announcements in scientific conferences (5%), d) the possession of other Postgraduate Degrees (5%), e) the relevant professional experience (10%), f) the letters of recommendation (10%) and g) the interview (30%). Admitted to the MSc are candidates with the highest overall grade. Exceptionally and only in case the required number of entrants has not been filled (up to 30) can be accepted candidates with a general degree of “Welcome”, according to a documented decision of the Assembly of the Department.

The Selection Committee will invite to an interview – oral examination those of the candidates who meet the formal and substantive requirements. The MSc is self-financed and the total tuition is € 2,800 per student for the three (3) semesters of study, which are paid in installments in two (2) equal installments, in September and January of each academic year.

It is noted that two (2) scholarships of excellence are given in each semester (1st & 2nd) to the students who obtain the highest score in the respective courses. Scholarships are given in special cases and by companies in the sector.

In addition, as provided by the provision of article 35 “Free tuition – scholarships” of Law 4485/2017, from the total number of students admitted is exempted from tuition fees 30% of students based on economic and social criteria.
