The project ‘Advanced training on sustainable management of pastoral systems (TranSuMan)’, approved by the European Commission under the ERASMUS+ Key Action 2 (KA220 HED) – Cooperation partnerships in higher education, officially concludes on April 2nd, 2024. The project was coordinated by the Universita degli Studi di Camerino (Italy), with additional participation from Fundacion Universidad Catolica de Valencia San Vicente Martir (Spain), Universitatea Babes Bolyai (Romania), and the University of Thessaly, represented by the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences, and Design. The project involved members of the Department, Professor Michalis Vrachnakis, Associate Professor Ioannis Kazoglou, and Associate Professor Marios Trigkas. Additionally, from the inception (03/01/2022) until the end of the project, a team of 17 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Department, as well as stakeholders, were engaged.
The most significant outcomes of the project included the development of (a) methodological guidelines, (b) integrated scientific tools (toolkit), (c) a unified online course, and (d) future prospects and a replicability plan for sustainable management of grasslands. The development of these achievements, along with other issues related to ecology, management, and utilization of grasslands developed during the project, were communicated at the local level to ensure that relevant stakeholders are informed about the cutting edge of science and the latest developments and scientific achievements in ecology and grassland management.
