The European university alliance INVEST, in which the University of Thessaly participates, announces the online “International Conference on Neurotechnology in the Age of Human Rights.”

The aim of the conference is to provide a symposium dedicated to early-career legal scholars interested in discussing key issues in the current debate on neurotechnology.

Neurotechnology is at the center of institutional debate at international, regional, and national levels.

This technology raises numerous ethical and legal questions, as it allows direct access to the human brain, presenting related threats and challenges for human rights. The legal discussion is focused on neurorights.

In this context, many legal questions remain open:

  • What are the opportunities and risks of approaching neurorights?
  • Vagueness and difficulties in implementation are only some of the objections to introducing new rights into the current catalogue of human rights.
  • How can these objections be overcome? Are there relevant alternatives to this approach?
  • How are the legal challenges of neurotechnology addressed at the national level?
  • How are the different challenges in medical, non-medical, and forensic fields treated legally? Are there already legal rules in place, or what are the future prospects?
