The kickoff meeting for the CIRCULess program took place on October 2, 2024, at the NTNU Gjovik facilities in Norway.
CIRCULess is a European project aimed at promoting circular economy practices in construction, manufacturing, and processing industries by minimizing construction and demolition waste (C&DW) as well as production residues (CDM), such as concrete and wood-based materials. It aligns with the objectives of the Processes4Planet partnership by developing new circular processes for secondary materials from waste/residues for all industrial processes. The main goal of CIRCULess is to fully utilize these secondary materials and produce new, innovative, environmentally friendly products that are sustainable and meet the industry’s expected standards.
The University of Thessaly (UTH), with Professor Dr. Georgios Ntalos as the scientific lead, focuses on research for new wood products and the recycling of timber waste from both production and construction.
CIRCULess involves 20 partners from across Europe, coordinated by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The project started on July 1, 2024, and will continue for three years, with a total budget of 12 million euros.
The project’s other partners include: NORGES TEKNISK-NATURVITENSKAPELIGE UNIVERSITET, ASOCIACION DE INVESTIGACION METALURGICA DEL NOROESTE, HOLCIM INNOVATION CENTER SAS, OMTRE AS, FORESTIA AS, GJOVIK KOMMUNE, ETHNICON METSOVION POLYTECHNION, DANMARKS TEKNISKE UNIVERSITET, LULEA TEKNISKA UNIVERSITET, ASOCIACION ESPANOLA DE NORMALIZACION, INNOVATION IN RESEARCH & ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS, GLOBAL CONSULTING SUSTAINABILITY, TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITEIT EINDHOVEN, FUNDACION TECNALIA RESEARCH & INNOVATION, VOLBAS SA, 6 BAVENIR SRO, ROLA GREEN TECH LIMITED, Psarommatis Giannakopoulos Foivos, and THE UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE HIGHER EDUCATION CORPORATION.
