For admission to the Master’s Program “Advanced Design, Technology & Management of Wooden Products”

The Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences & Design of the School of Technology of the University of Thessaly, in accordance with the decision No. 107/29.5.2024 (topic 5) of its Assembly, announces the start of the application process for the admission of postgraduate students, for the academic year 2024-2025 in the Master’s Program (MSC) entitled “Advanced Design, Technology & Management of Wooden Products” with three (3) specializations: a) Product Design, b) Technology & Construction and c) Management & Marketing.

The program is aimed at graduates of: the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design, the Departments of Design and Technology of Wood and Furniture, Forestry and Natural Environment Management, Forestry and Natural Environment, Forestry and Environmental Management and Natural Resources, graduates of Polytechnic Schools, graduates of Positive Sciences, Economics, Administration, Marketing, graduates of other HEI Departments (Universities or TEIs), the relevance of which to the subject of the said MSc is judged on a case-by-case basis by a competent committee for the selection of postgraduate students, as well as graduates of foreign HEIs, in a related specialty, after presenting the parity of their title from the competent body.

Registrations at MSc take place during the second fortnight of September 2024, while the courses will start at the beginning of October 2024 and will take place in the building facilities of the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences & Design in Karditsa, in the Greek language. The teaching of the courses is carried out every 15 days, Friday (afternoon), Saturday and Sunday, and is also supported by modern means of distance teaching, in accordance with the current legislation, in order to facilitate working students who are far away from Karditsa. In addition, the possibility of supplementary remedial teaching is provided in certain courses, if this is deemed necessary.

The duration of studies is three (3) academic semesters. In the 1st and 2nd semesters, the taught courses are monitored, while in the 3rd semester, a postgraduate diploma thesis is prepared. To obtain the master’s degree, attendance and a successful examination in ten (elective and compulsory) courses are required, as well as the submission and successful examination of a master’s thesis.

The maximum number of students to be admitted for the academic year 2024-25 is thirty (30).

by electronically attaching the following supporting documents:

  1. Photocopy of police ID.
  2. Complete and up-to-date curriculum vitae, which will include information on the candidates’ studies, scientific and professional activity.
  3. Copies of degrees and transcripts (or Diploma Supplements) or a declaration that they are expected to graduate 10 days before the start of classes.
  4. Certificate of recognition and equivalence from the competent body (for those coming from HEIs abroad).
  5. Copies of certificates of knowledge of foreign languages.
  6. Evidence of professional, educational experience and scientific activity in general (if any).
  7. Letters of recommendation (if applicable).
  8. Four (4) ID photos

The evaluation of the candidates will be based on the overall grading (on a scale of 1 – 100) with the following criteria (the weighting factor of each criterion is shown in parentheses): a) the general grade of the degree/diploma with a minimum score of “Very Good” ( 30%), b) the level of knowledge of the foreign language (10%), c) the publications in scientific journals, announcements at scientific conferences (5%), d) the possession of other Masters Degrees (5%), e) the relevant professional experience (10%), f) letters of recommendation (10%) and g) the interview (30%). Candidates with the highest overall grade are admitted to the PMS. Exceptionally and only in the event that the required number of admitted students (up to 30) has not been completed, candidates with a general degree grade of “Good” may be admitted, according to a documented decision of the Department’s Assembly.

The Selection Committee will invite to an interview – oral examination those of the candidates who meet the formal and substantive requirements.

The MSc – STEMA-PROXY is self-financed and the total tuition fees are €2,800 per student for all three (3) semesters of study, which are paid in installments in two (2) equal installments, in September and January of each academic year.

It is noted that two (2) excellence scholarships are given in each semester (1st & 2nd) to the students who collect the highest marks in the respective courses. Scholarships are given in special cases by companies in the sector.

Additionally, as provided by the provision of Article 86 “Free tuition – scholarships” of Law 4957/2022, 30% of the total number of admitted students are exempted from tuition fees based on financial and social criteria.
