Dr. Dimitrios A. Samaras is Assistant Professor of Forest Botany – Geobotany in the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design at the University of Thessaly. He is a forestry graduate of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2004), with a Master’s degree in Forest Botany and Geobotany (A.U.Th. – 2007) and a doctoral degree (Dr. rer. nat.) in Vegetation Science from the University of Freiburg (Germany – 2012). During 2009-10 he worked as scientific assistant in the Chair of Site Classification and Vegetation Science at the University of Freiburg. In 2014-15 worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Institute of Mediterranean and Forest Ecosystems (Hellenic Agricultural Organization “DEMETER”) on the vulnerability of Greek fir forests to climate change. Between 2014 and 2019 he was a scientific consultant to the Forest Research Institute of Chile (Instituto Forestal – INFOR). In 2020 was granted a scholarship to conduct research on the impact of climate change upon fir forests in Greece, at the Agricultural University of Athens. Dr. Samaras has been participated in 14 research projects (6 in Greece and 8 abroad), 6 of which were competitive. He has been lecturer/instructor in seminars and training programs for forestry students in Greece, Germany, Romania and Chile, and since 2019 has been giving lectures in Greek Universities on Plant Morphology and Physiology, Forest Botany, Forest Ecology, Environmental Education, Climate change and Non-Timber Forest Products. He has more than 30 publications in Greek and international scientific journals and congresses, as in books.
