Mantanis Georgios

George I. Mantanis was born in Mytilene in 1966 and grew up in the village of Stipsi, Lesbos island, Greece. He graduated with honours from the High School of Kalloni (Lesbos) in 1984. He presently is a senior faculty member at Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design, University of Thessaly, and director of the Laboratory of Wood Science & Technology. Prof. Mantanis works at the University of Thessaly since Jan. 2019, formerly being at Technological Education Institute (TEI) of Thessaly since 2002. He was a core member of the former Department of Wood & Furniture Design and Technology, which was the only one in the Greek academic system. He served as a chair in that department for six years (2002-06 and 2012-14), coordinating a variety of administrative and academic projects. He possesses a diploma in Forestry from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1989), with a specialisation in wood technology, and a doctorate degree (PhD) from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison (USA) in wood science (1994). He was employed for two years in the Forest Research Institute (FRI) of Thessaloniki (1996-1997) and also four years in the industrial company ACM Wood Chemicals Plc, today Chimar Hellas SA, at the R&D department. The research work of Prof. George I. Mantanis is primarily concentrated on the structure, properties, and chemical technology of wood and wood products, incorporating more than 60 original research papers in international referred journals. He possesses more than 2,000 citations at Google Scholar. He is a Co-Editor in the referred journal Wood Material Science and Engineering (I.F. 2.553) of Taylor & Francis, and also as a reviewer in international journals: European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, Wood Science and Technology, Wood Material Science and Engineering, BioResources, Wood Research, Maderas. Ciencia y tecnologia, Drvna Industrija, and International Biodeterioration and Biodegradation. In 2021, he was elected a Fellow in The International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS).
