Seven (7) students and two (2) professors of the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design participated in the Blended Intensive Program (BIP) for Climate-Smart Forestry that took place in the period 15-20 May in Krakow, Poland. Students and professors from the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Finland, Spain, Germany and the host Poland participated in the program.
Students had the opportunity to be taught and successfully assessed on various topics related to forestry and management practices related to Climate-Smart Forestry, i.e. those related to adaptation to climate change and mitigation of its impacts on ecosystem services that forest ecosystems provide. The training included both lessons in the Amphitheater and visits to nearby forests in the Tatra Mountains, on the border with Slovakia. Successful completion of the training awarded each student three (3) ECTS which will be listed in the Diploma Supplement of their degree.
In addition, on the sidelines of the program, they had the opportunity to visit the site of the Auschwitz Holocaust, where hundreds of thousands of people were martyred during the years of Nazi occupation during World War II.
